A Guide to Our Car Servicing: What, Why, and When

We know that looking at your dashboard and seeing a service light can be confusing. Is it an emergency? Can it wait? What do they actually check? This page explains everything you need to know about car servicing, and exactly how we take care of your vehicle.

What is a Car Service? (The Basics)

A car service is a thorough inspection and maintenance check designed to keep your vehicle running safely, reliably, and efficiently. Think of it as a health check-up for your car. It helps to identify worn-out parts before they fail, keeps your warranty valid, and maintains the value of your vehicle.

We offer three levels of service to suit your driving habits and the age of your car. Our advice is always based on your manufacturer's recommendations and your mileage.

Types of Services We Offer

It can be tricky to know which service you need. Here is a simple breakdown of what each level includes, so you can make an informed choice.

Interim Service (Light Check)

Best for: High-mileage drivers, delivery vehicles, or if you haven't had a service in over 6 months.

What it focuses on:

  • Safety First: Checks brakes, steering, and suspension for wear and tear.
  • Essential Fluids: Engine oil and oil filter change. Topping up of coolant, screen wash, and brake fluid.
  • Visual Inspection: A check of the exhaust, tyres (pressure and tread depth), lights, and wipers.
  • Outcome: Ensures your car is safe and roadworthy between major services.

Full Service (Comprehensive)

Best for: Annual servicing, general peace of mind, and maintaining warranty.

What it focuses on: This includes everything in the Interim Service, plus a much deeper inspection:

  • Engine & Filters: Replacement of the oil filter, air filter, and a check of the fuel system.
  • Detailed Component Check: A thorough inspection of the cooling system, driveshafts, gearbox, and battery.
  • Brake System: A deeper look at brake pipes, hoses, and the handbrake efficiency.
  • Electrical Systems: Testing of the alternator, starter motor, and all interior electrics.
  • Final Report: You will receive a detailed report on the overall health of your vehicle, with recommendations for any future work.

Major Service (The Full Works)

Best for: Older cars, pre-MOT checks, or if you plan a long journey.

What it focuses on: This is our most exhaustive service. It covers everything in the Full Service, with critical extras:

  • Critical Fluid Changes: Replacement of the fuel filter, and a brake fluid change (essential for safety).
  • Bodywork Check: Inspection of the chassis, underside, and suspension mounting points.
  • Wheel Bearings & Joints: A detailed check for play or wear.
  • Road Test: After all checks are complete, a mechanic will road-test the vehicle to ensure everything feels right under real driving conditions.

Why Regular Servicing Matters

It's Not Just About Fixing Problems, It's About Preventing Them

  • Safety: The most important reason. Worn brakes, steering faults, or low fluid levels can compromise your safety and that of your passengers.
  • Reliability: A regularly serviced car is less likely to break down. It provides peace of mind that your car will start and run smoothly every day.
  • Resale Value: A full-service history is one of the biggest factors in a car's resale value. It proves to a future buyer that the car has been well cared for.
  • Fuel Efficiency: A well-tuned engine runs more efficiently, saving you money at the pump.

Our Servicing Process (What to Expect)

Headline: How We Look After Your Car

When you book your car in for a service with us, here is exactly what will happen:

  1. Vehicle Health Check (VHC): We start with a thorough visual and digital inspection of your car.
  2. The Service: Our technicians follow a detailed checklist specific to your car's make, model, and service level (Interim, Full, or Major). We use quality parts and the correct grades of oil for your engine.
  3. Clear Communication: If we find anything unexpected during the service, we will always call you. We will explain the issue, show you if possible, and provide a clear price for the repair before we do any additional work. There is never any pressure to say yes.
  4. Final Check & Stamp: Once the work is complete, we perform a final quality control check. We then give you a detailed report outlining all issues found.
